Martini Fridays began for me about 10 years ago as a way to connect with my husband at the end of a long week. He worked an irregular schedule as a firefighter and I had a more typical Monday through Friday job. When we were both still working, Martini Friday might fall twice a week depending on the end of his rotation. It was a time that we would decompress, talk about things on our minds and share interesting experiences while enjoying an afternoon cocktail. Taking time out for one another is incredibly important in any relationship and our Martini Friday tradition soon became a weekly event. We are both retired now and occasionally share our tradition with close family and friends. We have celebrated Martini Friday in some exotic places like Antarctica, Iceland, and the South Pacific. But wherever we find ourselves on Friday, we make the time to be together.
Anyone can celebrate Martini Friday, regardless of whether you drink alcohol or not. It is really about slowing yourself down and taking time out for those you care about. I hope to share some of my thoughts and life’s lessons I have learned along the way, not just on Martini Fridays.
